Such a silly and whimsical little humorous romance play. I caught myself smiling and giggling multiple times & my annotations are rather unhinged. Justice for my girl Helena who deserves way better than that punk Demetrius.
Also, to be so real the entire time I was reading this I was imagining a retelling with Puck x Lysander and tbh I kind of need that

I loved the Frankenstein portion of the story, but the other short stories felt incredibly random to include in this volume; I didn’t really care for them & it really killed the vibe. I wish Junji Ito stuck with just Frankenstein maybe told through short stories, short stories for different gothic horror classics, or even half Frankenstein/half his own retelling/rendition of Frankenstein. Idk, the format he chose for this one just felt really disjointed and random. Specifically the Frankenstein portion was a solid like 4.5⭐️, but the rest dropped my rating down.

I fear I did not like this…. The concept & art was brilliant, but so many of these stories were so similar and it felt very repetitive and boring. Also, this book had such a good central theme with hot girl revenge & murder and I feel sorely underwhelmed by where it went? I expected this to be my favourite Junji Ito so I’m disappointed to say the least.

Very interesting and spicy Roku x Sozin background lore, & knowing everything that comes of this adds a layer of devastation and agony that hits. At times it was definitely a bit slow & repetitive, but I enjoyed this!

Cannibalism metaphor, queer theory, critical disability studies, trauma/grief narrative, nature of monstrosity commentary all wrapped up in a semi “cozy” (arguably) genre bending horror/folklore/literary realism story with a wildly unique narrative structure where each act is narrated by a different character…. Ate this up ngl

Highly recommend reading this book in nature if you can. This is a nonfiction that at times read a tad too textbook-y for my liking, but there’s so many beautiful quotes in here & it’s such a powerful indigenous perspective on the earth & I had such a grounding experience reading this
Dnf 42% in, idk what it is about Stephen’s writing style that I just can’t seem to wrap my head around but it’s like I’m reading simlish
