To be super duper real I am so bored & not vibing, I’m gonna watch Hannibal & see if that makes me want to revisit this
I reaaaaallly realllllyyyyy tried & I just….. don’t get it. I know it’s supposed to be confusing but I really hate that I have no idea really what’s going on & knowing this series gets progressively more and more confusing has lost my interest tbh… I love Gideon, but I’m over trying to read this lol. I know this is a cult favourite amongst my fellow girls gays & they’s & I am sorry to report I am not a fan 🤪
I know I’m probably not being fair, but I got 17 pages in & I don’t care about either of these rich white girls and I don’t care to read on whejjejro. Maybe I’m missing out on some commentary of some sort & the homoerotic toxic friendship dynamic by tapping out now, but I’m over it 🤪

The sapphic slasher summer camp horror vibes were all so much fun & very Fear Street meets Friday the 13th & I enjoyed all of the horror references/vibes, but around like 60-70% mark this book takes some pretty antisemitic turns with how it represents blood libel/secret societies etc. I don’t really know what to make of this in the end because it was a really good time until the antisemitism came out of nowhere. I read through some other reviews from Jewish readers, & it does look like there’s a common feeling that it doesn’t seem like it intentionally is hateful, however more so speaks to how deeply ingrained antisemitism is within our society and how easy it is to accidentally use caricatures/tropes. I would be curious to know if the author has ever acknowledged this?

Character
Really fun premise and idea that didn’t quite hold up in the end.
This book relied very heavily on being character focused without providing enough lore, & background to the characters and their dynamics with each other. It honestly felt like the full circle moment of As Good As Dead but without a book 1 and 2 leading up to it which made the character’s and their dynamics feel very rushed, plopped in and random. The first half did feel pretty strong & I was very intrigued and sitting at a comfortable 4-5⭐️ rating; but the second half really dropped the ball & I found myself asking why I should be caring about any of them or anything happening & I was doing a lot of skimming. I think this book is better than a 2⭐️ because the first half was really fun, & it was a really good concept, but the execution was not all there.

Not to be a horny booktok guy on the main but Andrew Garfield’s whimpering in the audiobook bro….
No but on a real note this was the best audiobook I’ve ever listened too. It made this book so accessible & the full cast, sound effects, and soundtrack were superb.

This was wholeheartedly like a queer/conversion therapy/Christian evangelical “Get Out” meets “Don’t Worry Darling” meets “Black Mirror.”
Such a brilliant concept from Tingle & went places I didn’t expect this to go at all. In the beginning I thought it was going to be an archetype of ridiculous camp, almost like “but I’m a cheerleader,” but quite quickly I realized it was much more serious and horrifying.
I do think sometimes the pacing was off & I found myself skimming through portions of the second half, but the concept was just so brilliant and powerful I can forgive some of the pacing issues.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5 I am GAGGED.
This threw the whole plot structure of the first two away and had me on the edge of my seat with my jaw dropped the entire time never knowing what was going to happen. I truly cannot believe this is where Holly took this last book, but holy FUCK did she ever take us there!!!!! The only reason why this isn’t 5⭐️ is because the ending did feel too rushed for my liking, & sometimes Pip makes me cringe, but I still really loved it.
Also this potential this trilogy has for like 2 more additional trilogies…… give me Pip in college……. Give me Pip as a detective….. Holly I’m on my knees pleading with you……..
