Ali Hazelwood has done it again! Something about her stories, the wit and humor is always right up my alley. This book was so goofy at certain points, but it was exactly what I needed.

“Without caution, without fear, courage is but folly by another name.”

I cannot give Samantha Shannon enough praise for this amazing book! WOW. When I first read Priory I was excited to find out the author had already been working on another book set in the same universe. I’d been completely immerse in the story of Priory, and now somehow Samantha has made me lose myself even MORE in Fallen Night.

I felt so much for these characters and their hardships. It was amazing seeing each individual story progress until finally everyone is essentially fighting the same battles, fighting to protect those they love so dearly. Samantha Shannon is truly a remarkable story teller. The world building in both Priory and Fallen Night is phenomenal and I cannot wait for anything else that may come from this universe. I don’t think I’ll ever get enough.

“A single choice could end the world.”

No thoughts head empty for me. All I know is I absolutely loved this book so much. Found family/strong friendships will always be among my most favorite trope and I just really appreciate the friendship between Niya and Teo. I’m glad their friendship was so central to the story.
I can’t wait for the next book to see what the conclusion of this story is. My only regret (but not really a regret of course) is reading TST months before Celestial Monsters is released. I’m anxiously and excitedly awaiting the next release!

I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

“No one else in the family seems to understand Mom’s emotions. Everyone else walks around clueless, never knowing which Mom they’re going to get. But I always know. I’ve spent my whole life studying her so that I can always know, because I always want to do whatever I can in any given moment to keep or make Mom happy.”

What a heart wrenching yet beautiful memoir. Jeannette has allowed the reader into the most vulnerable parts of her life from her childhood up into her adulthood. I could feel the torment and conflicting emotions when she  delved into her complicated relationship with her mother, and even more complicated feelings that came with her passing, alongside sharing her struggles with unhealthy coping mechanisms and her disillusion of the industry she felt forced into.
Truly a remarkable read. I’m wishing nothing but the absolute best, happiness and peace for Jennette.

“Through writing, I feel power for maybe the first time in my life. I don’t have to say somebody else’s words. I can write my own. I can be myself for once. I like the privacy of it. Nobody’s watching. Nobody’s judging. Nobody’s weighing in. No casting directors or agents or managers or directors or Mom. Just me and the page. Writing is the opposite of performing to me. Performing feels inherently fake. Writing feels inherently real.”

“I remember that home isn’t about how big the space is but how we fill it.”

I really really wanted to love this book. I’d heard such great things about it and was very excited to read it. It’s not that it was bad by any means, but things just moved along so quickly between the characters. I get they’re teenagers and feelings are more intense, but goodness.
Because this is YA I know I’m not the target audience for this book considering I’m nearly twice the characters ages, which is something I did not want to hold against the story, but I also wanted to take my enjoyment and feelings into consideration, so I landed on a median 3 star rating.
