The cover and the blurb is what made me want to read this story. The premise was intriguing and the historical elements made it unique, in comparison to other witchy books, by being set during Nazi rule.

Without giving too much away, Xavier is a Golden Retriever of a man and I liked him for that. Briar is described as being strong, but I didnt really feel connected to that notion. Her mum, is mum like. 🤷🏽‍♀️
I don't know. I didn't feel much character development to be honest.

The time travelling got boring and repetitive i felt. I think the prologue and lead up to that would of made a better story, how she got there the first time etc and the spice they have had.

I really hoped to like this, but some of the writing didn't make sense to me. An example of this is Briar herself saying she escaped the stories villian twice. I thought she could only recall the first time? Unless I skipped something. The discrepancies annoyed me a slight.

Overall, I think there is a unique love story, love between a mother and daughter, and the romantic love story. It's cute.

Spice:🫑

I listened to the audio book. Was disappointed it wasn't duet style but 🤷🏽‍♀️

The story was FULL of questions from the FMC but it kept me guessing along with her.

The ending!!!

I can't wait for book 2

I need the next book, NOW!!

I have not been able to put this book down at all today! It has such a gripping story/plot; it has taken me by surprise! The hatred i have for some of the characters shows how well they're portrayed to the reader. The main characters are older too which is refreshing, in their 30's and 40's.

Darrow! I think he has made my book boyfriend list. I don't think he came off as too morally gray. I really love that he isn't unnecessarily an awful person to Aella in the beginning, like many of these types of MMC can be. Due to the dual POV, we know his thinking and reasoning. There were times when his words to her had me giggling to myself like a schoolgirl. I loved it. Each to their own, but i didn't find him irritating at all. Just swoon-worthy.

I didn't dislike Aella either. Usually the FMC gets on my last nerve. She wasn't stupid, or too stupid. She only ever had bad choices to choose between. She has had a terrible start in life and has made the best of what she has. She is a strong, compassionate person and I loved her development.

The world building is to die for. The fauna described in this sounds amazingly breathtaking. A lot of them being sentient and their own kind of side characters I feel really added depth to the world and Aella.

It's teasing, it's slow-burn, there's magic, there's touch her and die and most importantly, some spice! The spice could be on the rough side for some, but i liked it.

Book 2 please??! 🥺

I couldn't put it down, thank you to the author, Netgalley and the publishers for this masterpiece.

This was a delight to read. A real breath of fresh air from the usual morally grey characters.

Corvus, is a Golden Retriever of a MMC. Plus, he has wings! He's suffering through grief and family woes within his house, alongside an age long vendetta with a rival house. He has an instant connection to Sorcha. To which he dives in. Head first!

Sorcha, is a loveable FMC. She doesn't hold societies standards of beauty. Yet she is beautiful, and she feels it. Thats so refreshing to read. She has a past of her own that comes into play amongst her relationships with Corvus, a Prince and a political coup!

This is a fast paced read, I do hope there is more to accompany this story. I feel like there are a few characters with loose ends and a great deal more story to transpire.

This prequel is such a pleasant read. I read When Blood Burns first.
This short story answered questions from the main book, but has also left an air of mystery and anticipation for the next book in the series. These are really good debuts! If you love fantasy, political chess amongst dragons and strong female main characters. This is a really gripping read.

The development of Liotha is portrayed really well too.

Honestly, I can't wait for what is next.
