Oh now this is what I look for in a short story

Didn’t strike me emotionally as much as it wowed me with the writing and concept, it was incredible

It only doesn’t rank higher because I mainly value stories off of their emotional impact, and I didn’t feel attatched enough to the story to feel that (but that’s more of just it being so short), but this was so well written and just fantastic

I loved this so much more than I thought I would, the ending really hit me and it's what really made this book leave a mark.

Finch's suicide really hit. And I felt like I appreciated his character a lot more after it, which I think really showcases the whole idea that people don't appreciate someone until they're gone, which I think is what the author was commenting on. The effect was strong

I think some of the characters could've been better, but I adored Violet and loved seeing her growth as well as her relationship with Finch, and I found Finch really relatable

Definitely a book that'll stick with me for a while

Solid story.

Wish there was more to it tho, but I suppose that’s what you get wish short stories. The writing was okay, but it was fun to read through

It feels like there’s some deeper message that the author either attempted at or I’m just not getting, but that left it feeling a bit missing.

The writing was okay, but I can’t tell if it’s just casual narration, or really corny — I don’t think it’s too bad, it doesn’t take away from the reading experience. The plot was quite cliche and basic, but still fun to read. Just wish it was expanded on more

Not bad!

Left me staring at the wall WOW
the imagery is incredible and it’s so atmospheric, I found myself so invested in these characters
Although there’s stuff I wish was more explored, its not enough to diminish the way I loved this

I liked the writing, the prose was well written and dreamlike, but the poetry was a hit or miss (mostly misses, flowery with no meaning), with plenty of quotable lines that made it nice to read. But what was the plot??

The ending felt like it didn't have any resolution, maybe the garden was a metaphor for something that I just don’t understand, but it felt incomplete.

The story mostly focused on the conversations between the 2 characters, which were nice (I guess, maybe a bit meaningless and unrealistic, but this book relies on its nice language to hold it up, so it's probably just that.), but the book completely dismisses the whole plot of the garden and leaves it empty and unfinished, we barely learn anything about the story the book is marketed about. Sure, it’s a short story, but the MAIN plot needs to feel well rounded and complete!

Maybe I’m just a hater who thinks short stories rarely work and need to blow my mind to be good, or maybe I’m completely missing some deeper meaning, but this to me felt like purple prose but directionless.

Overall, good concept, not well executed. I think this author will be great with longer novels though, so I’ll read more of her work.

DID NOT FINISH

i just wasn't invested. It's not bad, it just didn't hook me enough to care about the characters or the plot.

Beautiful writing but that's about it. felt like a whole lot of nothing was happening.
I actually like purple prose at times, but here, it was ALL that was going on.
Maybe i missed something and I'll try it again in the future, but for now, BORING
