needed editing, especially with the constant reiteration of points in the beginning, such as cole understanding his temporary position and wanting to keep it or minute details like the author explaining where eve lived and then in a couple of chapters later explaining where her apartment was located again like it wasn't previously stated. idk who the audience for this type of writing is, but it’s all show and tell rather than inference! the romance felt silly and the lines were corny, and then it turned into boning every other chapter which i can deal with, but it was like okay i don't care. back in my day, it'd be classified as erotica and not a romance novel 😭 also i genuinely don’t think romance authors are honing in their craft for character work.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.
I find Feyre fickle and ridiculous as a character. I don't care about Rhysand and I can't believe people are convinced of him as a "good guy." I dislike the way SJM has opted to create conflict in this story. I feel no sense of enjoyment reading about these characters, save for a few. I will say that the atmosphere and the plot are interesting, but that alone can't make me care about characters that the author has chosen to butcher.

you can't convince me that people genuinely think this is romance. a character study, yes. a story that can be used to analyze relationship dynamics, yes. but a romance? absolutely not. it's kind of unhinged that this makes people swoon because all i'm thinking about is that this is a good show and tell of what not to make teen girls fresh out of high school look for in a partner.
