Truly mixed feelings because the story is compelling but the racism will smack you out of nowhere, not even just from the characters but like, radiating from the text in general. Killer concept though.

(sniffling) I can't read another unhinged woman novel by a white woman with no understanding of intersectionality and racism and the way her whiteness and cisness affects the text, I just can't.

The crushing disappointment of realizing you have no interest in finishing a book. Like Those Bones are Not My Child is very well written, but it's dull as all hell. Oh, well!

Even with the third part, this shit is so... To critique orientalism and then still go ham with the orientalism, playing into the very tropes one was trying to dismantle. To hell with rich diasporic authors.

Edit after I've read some 1 star reviews; miss naga idk if you saw but they're calling you an orientalist faker on Goodreads, they're lighting your ass up.

Huh! Very cerebral, very compelling book about parasocial relationships and the erosion of personhood via celebrity/celebrity worship. Or something something stan culture is some mess.
