City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
4.0
A great improvement when compared to the fourth book in Terms of suspense! Where the fourth book felt like a filler, this doubled in action.
I have one negative thing to say about this book and it's the weird thing Sebastian has going on for Clary. I mean I get that it's supposed to illustrate exactly how little Sebastian really understands about love and feeling. If just made my skin crawl. Though I suppose that's what it's supposed to do, it just felt a little too yucky to me. It's simply a matter of taste.
As far as positive things go, we have a book which is packed to the brim with happenings. Clary makes stupid, impulsive decisions, as teenagers do. The complexity of toxic familial relationships is addressed. And of course, we are swept away into a world that is like ours but more. We have fun. We cry, get angry and get anxious and celebrate a bittersweet defeat.
