"Worthy of Fate" (book 1 in the Realms in Peril series) is a deliciously spicy, fantasy romance that delivers on all fronts. From the moment I started, I was hooked and couldn't put it down! This medium-paced, dark romantasy follows the characters through participation in a set of trials ordained by the Gods. The stakes are high, not only for the MCs but for the entire world they are fighting to protect.

You have a "stabby" FMC who's selfless and compassionate, always willing to sacrifice herself for others. While the "shadow zaddy" MMC is a misunderstood, thoughtful leader, and protector of his people. There's also a host of endearing side characters that bring humor, heart, and loyalty supporting the MCs.

The slow burn romance between the FMC and MMC is a journey, allowing their connection to develop organically while also weaving in circumstances beyond their control. Each interaction is more charged with tension and possibility than the last.

Then there's the theme of found family and friendship woven throughout the story. The trials the characters face not only test their strength but also deepens their bonds showcasing the importance of connection. The characters felt real, layered, and (in my opinion) were utterly compelling.

I fell in love with this story, its endearing characters, and the author's writing. The stakes are high, relationships are semi-complex, and the book left me hanging with a cliffhanger that has me DESPERATE for the next book in the series (Bound by Fate) which releases December 5, 2024! If you're a fan of slow-burn romance, forbidden fated mates, found family, heartfelt friendships, and a touch of elemental magic and great power, I highly recommend "Worthy of Fate" by A.N. Caudle.
