What happens after death? A whole lot of paper pushing apparently. the afterlife is a mess! with the reapers so understaffed, one unfortunate soul gets lost in all the paper pushing because of a stupid typo, and now she's stuck. problem is, the longer she's stuck, the more likely she is to become a horrible monstrous wraith. well, that's not gonna stop her, she was a life coach when she was alive, and she's sure as hell not gonna let some paper pushing, 'i know more than you', snobby, out of touch bureaucrats, tell her what she can and cannot do. so, she finds alternative actions... and stumbles onto a mystery that could destroy the afterlife, and then all of life itself.
this starts out as a morbid humor cozy, and slowly picks up more and more speed until there's a snowball the size of a double decker bus careening towards you with nothing to stop it from rolling you over. in the best way possible. the unhinged humor in this book had me cackling out loud more than once, and when the stakes started climbing, and kept on going, i couldn't put the book down. i stayed up until past midnight because i absolutely couldn't stand to stop. i HAD to know! and the ending will have your brain just spinning! don't worry, it's not a cliffhanger. i am absolutely OBSESSED, with this book, and absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves grim and morbid jokes.
Ten years ago, the heroes saved the world. their lives, well... they super suck. this is a book filled with tongue in cheek humor, sarcasm, witty banter, and a delightful poking of fun at cliche's and tropes. a Kingdom filled with the magical equivalents of daytime soap opera's, celebrity magazines, and the most important of all, starbucks. we follow the lives of the four heroes who saved the world, as they are forced once again to step into the roles they'd played so long ago. only, none of them are what they used to be, and now they have to figure out who they are... as well as finally confront the trauma, and the fight, they all believed they'd never have to deal with.
this book is cozy adjacent with not one, but two slow burn romances, a focus on emotional growth, and a delightful commentary on miscommunication, forgiveness, and learning who you are, as well as embracing who you want to be.
another fantastic book in the world of Swift Hollow where the bird puns are incessant, the romance is hot, and the mayor is a goat. no, seriously, he's a goat! follow Tina as she navigates the horrors of feelings as she struggles valiantly against her sudden infatuation with Nick. a retired MMA fighter with a horrible obsession with rubber ducks. she swore she'd never date, or get married. she doesn't need some man in her life she has to look after... but why does Nick have to be so HOT though?! as for Nick, he wants many things in life. he wants to get better at cornhole (not gonna happen) he wants to have the biggest collection of rubber ducks the world has ever seen (he's in second place and gaining!) and he wants to marry Tina. some of those goals are easier than others, that's for sure.
A hilarious, wonderfully told story of overcoming traumatic pasts, fighting against expectations, and the greatest battle of all, death to buttons. (seriously, how DARE that button!)
this was my first ever LitRPG story so I had to get used to some of the genre quirks but man am I SO glad I was able to pick up this book! it has it all! princesses, warriors, sword battles, magic, dragons, political shenanigan's, kidnappings, poor damsel kings in distress, and the Happily Ever After the main characters deserved. the worldbuilding alone left me in awe, with every kind of being under the sun from trolls, to high elves, to griffons and even the undead!
we follow Princess Henrietta as she is sent on a quest, more or less, to die. she has to go and challenge the dreaded evil dark lord of the monster filled forest. said evil overlord, is tired and just wants a nap and sends her off to go have fun baking. Henrietta soon finds herself having fun, and being herself for the first time in her life, and has to choose between disappointing her parents with her continued existence, or living with the dark denizens of the dark forest. with one choice, she lives in misery, and the other choice could lead to a happily ever after. with a prophetic fortune teller guiding the way, Henrietta has a lot of choices to make before she gets her happily ever after.
A Fantastic continuation of the Lachlan Story! Follow Hawk and Heather (better known as Hazard!) as they spin around each other, trying to deny their feelings for one another. with one too focused on saving the family zoo, and the other trying to hide that she's not who she says she is... Can Hawk hide his feelings, and can he forgive her when he learns the truth?
this book made me laugh, out loud, in public, this is the funniest romcom I have read in a while. the comedy in it is great for offsetting the drama and heartbreak within. with an ADHD main character, a twisting background plot, and a cast of very colorful characters, you won't be bored for a single sentence. my only complaint is that the next one isn't out yet!
This is a beautifully enchanting book filled with brilliant characters, amazing worldbuilding, and emotional upturns at every corner. follow Lore, as she walks into enemy territory to do work for those she can never trust, only to unwittingly find the key to her, and her peoples salvation in the back of the library she's supposed to be cleaning up. when the book shows her the truth, she takes off, staring an epic, and dangerous journey to free herself, and her people, from the hands of a sadistic Fey king who needs her people for reasons unknown, and will do anything to stay in control. this books is a thrilling, edge of your seat story from start to finish, with a revelation at the end that had me wanting to throw my kindle across the room. absolutely a must read of the year.
