The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
5.0
I love this book!
Let me just say that this is the first book that I've started reading seriously. I usually read mangas, I know, weeb. This book is such a perfect book to start! I first heard of Murakami from one of my friends. I looked him up and the summary of his books online bored me a little, so I didn't give much attention to his works. But when I was going to a concert, I had a little time to kill so I went to the bookstore and picked up this book. The back of the book got me intrigued! It was along the line of 'man lost his cat, his wife is growing distant and he gets weird phone calls' and I was like, I'm in! I read the first few pages and I really liked it. But I didn't buy the book and go to the concert instead. During the whole show, all I could think about was this book. When it was done I was rushing to the bookstore to buy it before it was closed. Worth every sweat!
I started reading on the way home right away and I fell in love. The way he writes is so detailed and interesting to me. One of my favorites is when he said "Someone came into the room, sending ripples through the air." and I thought wow, that's genius. Like! I could picture how this dude interrupted the peace of the room. Picturing how the door he opened caused the whole room to ripple like water. It's just amazing. The characters are interesting too, a lot of the time I couldn't guess what they were going to do. The ending is also nice. It really feels like a goodbye. I could picture the scene as a movie ending! Or a farewell letter to a friend. A good kind of farewell, though.
I feel like there're a lot more depths to this book that I didn't catch on from my first read. I'll definitely be rereading it soon. I will also be checking out more of his works too. This man is a genius and he's funny too. I wouldn't expect this book to make me chuckle as it did.

If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura

A 3.5/5 for me. It's a good book if you want a quick read. The story is not too deep. You don't have to think a lot, the author explains everyyyyything that happens. It feels like a diary.
