Not my usual type of reading but I was totally enchanted by this novel from very early on.
Sunshine is a magical character and Laura is wonderfully flawed.
I was surprised at how quickly I devoured this and found it practically impossible to put it down until I turned the last page.

Wow, that was an excellent lengthy epic.
It was a breath of fresh air knowing there wasn't a sequel (although they would be ripe for the picking!) and the plot was everything I love about fantasy. I am now envious of anyone who hasn't read this book and is able to read it with fresh eyes.

However, sometimes I felt a little lost, especially at the beginning when there were many plot-relevant characters thrown at you all at once, it was rather overwhelming and hard to keep on top of. I also found that oftentimes there was an unrealistic lack of resistance or challenge to changes of traditions, and conflicts that had spanned decades (or centuries) felt very easily forgotten or smoothly resolved just to progress the plot.
Other than that it was thoroughly fantastic and I had recommended it to several people before even reaching the end.

I've thought about this book so many times since finishing it and have decided to bump up my review from 4 stars to 5. There was so much world-building, some really great flawed characters, I didn't give it enough credit with 4 stars.
I think I was just trying to not give every book I read 5 stars, but this truly earns it.

Really struggled to know what was going on throughout. What propelled me to finished it was finding out what was actually going to happen or when all of the pieces slotted together, but nothing did happen and it didn't.
The Starless Sea was a really frustrating read with some beautiful imagery. It could have been something incredible but it just wasn't.
