This is one of my favorite reads of 2024 so far. I fell in love with the cast of characters, the found family during a horrific time, the love between Iris and Roman are top tier. I LOVED the concept of sending magical letters but one of them not knowing who it is. Falling for someone’s words purely.

I do however wish there were more fleshed out things that weren’t rushed. 1. Experiencing the relationship between Roman and Iris after marriage. (I understand it adds to the tension)
2. The war and why they are truly fighting. It just seemed like a sad excuse for Dacre to be fighting. Maybe it’s symbolic for how men can’t be shamed?
3. WTF THE BROTHER PLOT??????? At the end it felt forced and too worldending? I just can’t explain it. It just REALLY hit me in the gut.

I LOVED this book. In my opinion it’s better than Ninth House because there’s not as much world building and you get to actually know the characters. There’s a lot more happening and you finally get to meet people from others pasts as well as main characters. I was weirded out by the vampire/touch on fantasy but overall a great book.
