okay WOW I'm so so glad that I didn't let the size of this book deter me from finally picking it up.
I'm pretty sure I went through every single emotion known to man while reading this book. After finishing it, I promptly bought my own copy. A good book makes me want to know more and more about what I maybe missed or didn't initially understand right away, and I know that that is what I'll be doing for the next few days. I thought I knew enough about Japanese and Korean relations, but this opened up my eyes to so much more that I ignorantly didn't know about Japanese occupation, as well as the horrors of war and what impact that has on generations of people afterwards. The way women were treated back then, as well as what a strong hold family and culture has on people and society?!? PHEWWW. please read this if you haven't!
ALSO MY 50th BOOK THIS YEAR WOO

Girls Can Kiss Now: Essays by Jill Gutowitz

This was a fun collection of essays if you were a kid in the 90s and obsessed with pop culture, but if that's not your thing, you aren't missing out.

I wanted to love this book so much but I absolutely could not stand Ari's character... imo it was unrealistic for Hector to truly fall for him like that when Ari was a jerk for 2/3rds of the book....
Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito

4 stars!!
A much overdue read and excitedly fun palette cleanser of a horror manga.
Junji Ito's art never fails to make me stare at the page for at least a few minutes before moving on, the art in this, particularly in the first story in this collection is unreal.
I quickly got into the first half of this book with the story of the town and the crossroads fortunes. The other half of the book is a collection of other interesting short stories. (The one with the family actually cracked me up). One of my other favorites, The Rib Woman, is included in this collection also!

oh this was spectacular storytelling with every chapter being as frightening as the next. I particularly LOVEEE the art in this collection, the colored artwork is also STUNNINGGGG. Definitely one of the best from Junji Ito in terms of variety of different stories being told. 4.5 stars!!

not for me... I needed more to the girls than what we got, it was a little hard to separate their personalities. I'm disappointed because the art in this was cute- especially their outfits!! Netflix please contact me for a cute adaptation w/o the problematic bits :)

I fully believe that all of the events in this book would happen if a planet came to earth to lick it and said planet was named after a pretty girl they would try to kill that pretty girl because human logic makes 0 sense... 3.5 stars!
