Reflection by Elizabeth Lim

What I liked: I liked how it began right during the battle at the mountain like in movie and instead of Mulan getting injured it was Shang. When I first got this book, I didn’t expect Mulan having to go find Shang and I thought something more differently. I also liked how the author included parts of Chinese mythology like Meng Po.
What I didn’t like: The only problem I had with the book is that I didn’t like how Mulan and Shishi found Shang so quickly. I thought they were going to find more challenges on the way, find Shang, and go through more obstacles after they did.

Absolutely didn’t expect that I would like this book a lot. I really adored Cinna and Caesar as characters because they didn’t make Katniss and Peet’s feel like the laughing stock in front of the Captiol. At first I watched the movie before I read the book and was completely surprised by Katniss’ character. Can say that I liked book Katniss better than movie Katniss?
Venus in the Blind Spot by Junji Ito

Junji Ito has done it again. The man never fails to amaze me with his work. I especially adore the story where we learned about his inspiration to make horror manga. If it weren’t for his sisters, I would not be reading his work and making this review now.

God, I don’t know which one like better. One thing I can say is that I listened to the audiobook and read along with it and I adored Kaz’s voice actor. I liked how he would add in chuckles when it got to a specific character. I’m also glad that Wylan had some character development.

AMAZING! TALENTED! OUTSTANDING!
This was the perfect book to start of my pride month reads and I loved it. I have never read a book like this before in my life. A book that is filled with so much characters from all walks of life.
I also enjoyed how the books touched well on social issues and how Steven sheds light on them because out of all the books I’ve read, I have never seen an author touch on them like this in a straightforward way.
I would highly recommend this book to anybody looking for lgbtq+ books to read.

Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito
4.0
Tw: ED, graphic and disturbing imagery, depictions of suicide, and animal cruelty
Junji Ito relies heavily on shock factor. Before reading this one, I’ve read four of Ito’s manga and not once have I ever gasped at any of them until I read Smashed. Every time there was a page with only one image on it, like the police officer being eaten in the haunted house chapter or when we read smashed at the end and we see Ogi’s body splattered on the wall, it got a good reaction out of me.
What I also loved about reading this manga and all of the other Junji Ito manga I’ve read, is that Ito takes the most unexpected object and makes into something weird or horrifying and how everything starts off normal and gets terrifying as you read it. I also enjoyed asking the big question of why is this happening and how is this happening when reading some of the stories.
However, I gave this manga a four star compared to me giving five stars to Uzumaki, Shiver, Dissolving Classroom, and Venus in the Blind Spot because some chapters did feel a little slow to me that I flipped through some of them.

I loved this better than the first book. The reveal at the end was little unexpected and let’s say I did adore the Cressworth moments. I also really liked Daciana she’s my favorite character now.
