This was a quick, fun read. I loved the characters and the plot which is simple but executed well. Tan made me laugh and Devan is the best for rolling with it even as he draws his own boundaries.

Devan is the First Knight of Goodwine. Serenity, the Princess and heir to the throne is the one in charge of administering the country. The princess whose PR department works overtime to present her as perfect is in fact spoiled, ruthless and bad tempered. When she decides to sacrifice a town to defeat barbarian invaders, Devan comes up with the idea of seeking the help of Tan, the Black Sorceror of Grimslock. Tan who has had a crush on Devan for a while sees this as the perfect opportunity to seduce the man.

The dialogue and action are both balanced and I loved how Devan and Tan both had such distinct voices and personalities. The overly simplistic plot doesn't do full justice to the humour and emotions that this book invokes.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes queer fantasy, queer books on the whole, medieval fantasy and cozy fantasy.
