I would say a solid 4.5. I loved the plot line and a glimpse into feminism in the 50s and 60s. The ending was good in a way where we hope things work out for those that truly deserve it.

I would give this book a solid 4.5 stars. It wasn't a "slow burn" by any means--the protagonist's life story is complex and nuanced, so naturally it would take a lot to fully develop. However, there were times where I didn't fully grasp the point of sharing certain moments. I would say in the last 5-7 chapters of the book, all of the loose ends finally started making sense. The writing was hauntingly beautiful, tragic, and traumatic. There's more that I can say, but for now, I would also agree that the ending was abrupt for me. For all of the build up throughout the book, I felt that in the end, there was more to be desired.

I enjoyed the story of these 3 women—each with their experiences with the beauty of the natural world and the ugliness of men. I think the buildup for each story dragged on at times, but the parallels within Hart’s prose was effortlessly compelling. I marked it 4 stars, but I would err on the side of a strong 3.5 or so. It was a nice read, but not as much of a page turner/binge read that I typically gravitate towards.
