Strangely unsatisfying. Everything gets answered in the end, but somehow it just doesn't all make sense, the logic limps. Further, some of the characters are not fully convincing.

I found the structure stimulating, arranged by topic rather than chronology.
Interesting material, a lot of it new to me, tha author has certainly found some intriguing original sources.

I read the first Norwegian edition which contains details of the Nobile conflict. (It was toned down in later editions.) Fascinating.
