Política, acción, sangre, guerreros y venganza. La saga comienza con muchos conflictos a la vez, pero manteniendo al lector orientado hacia donde va cada situación y personaje. A pesar de tener un excelente world building con sus tierras, mares e historia tan peculiar, la historia se destaca a través de sus personajes.
El desarrollo de ellos debido a sus propias decisiones o las decisiones de la política que los rodea, creo un vínculo con el lector que hace que cada pelea, guerra o traición se sienta más de lo común. Los elementos de fantasía están presentes, pero aún no por completo, dándole espacio a la saga tener más sorpresas en el futuro que expandirán la historia de “The Banished Lands”.

Politics, action, blood, warriors and revenge. The saga begins with many conflicts at once, but keeping the reader oriented to where each situation and character is going. Despite having an excellent world building with its lands, seas and peculiar history, the story stands out through its characters.
The development of them due to their own decisions or the decisions of the politics around them, created a bond with the reader that makes each fight, war or betrayal feel more than ordinary. The fantasy elements are present, but not yet completely, giving the saga room to have more surprises in the future that will expand the story of “The Banished Lands.”

Una de las historias más perturbadoras que he leído. No podía dejar de leer sin sentir e imaginar sangre por todos lados. Una narrativa sin escrúpulos detalle tras detalle que, a pesar de ser tan corta, logró crear un mundo con sus reglas tan anormales. La complejidad de sus personajes mediante sus traumas psicológicos y su adaptación a la nueva realidad no tenía límite. Una autora para continuar leyendo, definitivamente.

One of the most disturbing stories I have ever read. I couldn't stop reading without feeling and imagining blood everywhere. An unscrupulous narrative detail after detail that, despite being so short, managed to create a world with its very abnormal rules. The complexity of his characters through their psychological traumas and their adaptation to the new reality had no limit. An author to continue reading, definitely.

Este segundo libro expande la problemática de Beartown a través de la política y la riña con su pueblo vecino Hed. Se muestra un desarrollo en los personajes, pero a la vez, quedan a un lado con la cantidad innecesaria de veces que el autor hace recap de los sucesos del primer libro. Por momentos, sentí que la historia no arrancaba, mientras otros momentos logré conectar con algunos personajes.
Nuevamente, esto no es una historia acerca de hockey, sino sobre la comunidad que le rodea.

Aunque es el segundo en la serie, es más bien una precuela y fuera de que lo narra Marcus Goldman, nada lo ata a ese genial primer libro. Estaba leyendo un libro autobiográfico que utilizó todas las herramientas posibles para estirar el chisme.
Joel Dicker narra muy bien en primera persona, pero la situación de esta familia era irrelevante e intentó todo lo posible para que pareciera interesante. Llegó un punto en que lo continué leyendo esperando un giro drástico o alguna conexión con lo leído anteriormente, pero me quedé con las ganas.
Leeré el tercero con la ilusión de que me vuelva a atrapar como lo hizo con el primero.

Although it is the second in the series, it is more of a prequel and apart from the fact that Marcus Goldman narrates it, nothing ties it to that great first book. I was reading an autobiographical book that used every possible tool to stretch the gossip.
Joel Dicker narrates very well in the first person, but this family's situation was irrelevant and he tried everything he could to make it seem interesting. There came a point where I continued reading it expecting a drastic turn or some connection with what I had read previously, but I was left wanting.
I will read the third with the hope that it will catch me again as it did with the first.

Fredrik Backman lo vuelve a hacer. Me adentré a esta historia sin antes saber de qué e trataba por la simple confianza que le tengo al autor. Y, una vez más, la historia va más allá de lo que presenta.
Este libro no trata sobre un equipo de hockey en un pequeño pueblo, sino sobre lo asqueroso que puede llegar a ser el machismo, fanatismo y homofobia (entre otros temas). Sin previo aviso, Backman nos adentra en esos temas de los cuales son una realidad en nuestro día a día, también.
Admito que mientras leía grandes partes de la historia me sentía molesto porque he presenciado y leído los mismos comentarios que aquí presentó el autor cuando ocurre un suceso de esa índole en la vida real.
Hubo personajes de los cuales me llevo de esta historia como Maya, Benji’ y Ramona que, WOW, me quito el sombrero ante su desarrollo. Continuaré la trilogía porque quiero continuar siendo testigo de la evolución de este pueblo (esperando que evolucione).

Fredrik Backman does it again. I entered this story without first knowing what it was about because of the simple trust I have in the author. And, once again, the story goes beyond what it presents.
This book is not about a hockey team in a small town, but about how disgusting machismo, bigotry and homophobia (among other topics) can be. Without warning, Backman takes us into those themes that are a reality in our daily lives, too.
I admit that while reading large parts of the story I was upset because I have witnessed and read the same comments that the author presented here when such an event occurs in real life.
There were characters that I take away from this story like Maya, Benji' and Ramona that, WOW, I take my hat off to their development. I will continue the trilogy because I want to continue witnessing the evolution of this town (hoping it will evolve).

Fue toda una experiencia leer literatura rusa del siglo XX con la intención de ser una sátira de la época y, a la vez, utilizando el realismo mágico en su narrativa. No puedo negar que hubo partes en donde no entendía del todo y pienso que se debe a que es un libro del cual uno debe saber más historia de ese momento para poder apreciarlo mejor.
Sin embargo, disfruté mucho los personajes principales de esta historia y lo graciosa que fue por partes. De igual forma, los diálogos eran geniales y cómo representaba a una ciudad entera intentando comprender qué estaba sucediendo.
Es difícil de recomendar, pero fue un buen inicio para conocer qué me espera si continúo leyendo más literatura rusa.

It was quite an experience to read Russian literature from the 20th century with the intention of being a satire of the time and, at the same time, using magical realism in its narrative. I cannot deny that there were parts where I did not fully understand and I think that is because it is a book about which we have to know more history of that moment to be able to appreciate it better.
However, I really enjoyed the main characters in this story and how funny it was in parts. Likewise, the dialogue was great and how it represented an entire city trying to understand what was happening.
It is difficult to recommend, but it was a good start to know what awaits me if I continue reading more Russian literature.

Es difícil reseñar una antología porque a través de cada cuento existe una opinión distinta. De los 19 cuentos que la componen, solo 5 me encantaron porque sentía que cumplían con los elementos que requieren una buena historia de horror.
El resto de las historias no me impactaron o lograron sobresalir de alguna forma. Al editor ser Jordan Peele, pensé que leería de alguna forma su estilo a través de la narrativa de otros. Y no está mal que cada autor tuviera su propia libertad creativa, al contrario.
No quito mérito a que existió mucha crítica social en relación a la comunidad negra y las realidades que viven y vivieron, pero no todos supieron atarlo al horror de una forma que me hiciera sentir miedo o, al menos, la sensación de una historia descabellada.

A diferencia de los anteriores en la serie, en este no logró causarme el mismo enganche y efecto por diferentes razones. En cuanto a los personajes, ¿qué pasó con ellos? ¿Por qué los sentí tan planos sin ningún tipo de desarrollo? De igual forma, no fueron tan protagonistas como antes.
La historia se sintió redundante haciéndome recapitulaciones y mención de lo más a través de la mayoría de los capítulos. El único detalle que destaco es la crítica social que se elabora a través del problema a resolver y las preguntas abiertas que dejaron al final.
Fuera de eso, espero el próximo libro a ver cómo concluye todo.

Me topé con un autor magnífico como storyteller, aunque en este libro, se destaca haciéndolo con muchas historias ajenas a la principal. Aunque quedé fascinado con la forma en que narra los sucesos e interacciones, no logré engancharme a ningún personaje del todo.
Sentí que no hubo personaje principal, sino muchos secundarios. De la misma forma, percibí lo mismo de las problemáticas que deseaba hacernos reflexionar o estar conscientes de ello.
Me llevé un sabor agridulce porque intenté con todo lo que pude que me gustara mucho, pero quedé a medias.

I came across a magnificent author as a storyteller, although in this book, he stands out doing so with many stories other than the main one. Although I was fascinated by the way he narrates the events and interactions, I couldn't completely get attached to any character.
I felt that there was no main character, but many secondary characters. In the same way, I perceived the same thing about the problems that he wanted to make us reflect or be aware of.
I got a bittersweet taste because I tried everything I could to really like it, but I came up halfway.

Al inicio, no me atrapaba, pero me era interesante saber hacia donde iba. Luego sentía un tipo de compromiso con los dos personajes principales en lograr sus objetivos. Casi acabando dejó de interesarme porque sentí que cumplimos nuestro objetivo. Entonces, al final, me voló la cabeza con conocimiento, dejándome con muchas preguntas.
En esta historia, todos somos Ruth tratando de conocer la vida de Nao a través de su diario, pero, a la vez, somos Nao queriendo expresar nuestro sentir para que lo lea un extraño ajeno a nuestra realidad y llegue a sus propias conclusiones.
Fue gracioso, me reí fuerte en casa y también es reflexivo, tuve mis momentos de introspección.

Almost finishing, I stopped being interested because I felt that we met our goal. So in the end, it blew my mind with knowledge, leaving me with a lot of questions.
In this story, we are all Ruth trying to know Nao's life through his diary, but, at the same time, we are Nao wanting to express our feelings so that a stranger outside our reality can read them and reach their own conclusions.
It was funny, I laughed out loud at home and it's also reflective, I had my moments of introspection.
