(black panthers, fergusson protest, prisons and constitutions, G4S etc)

this was so bad ngl
i know i'm not the audience for these kind of books but this was portrayed as a "gilmore girls" vibes/ autumn read and i was down for that.

being set in a small town doesn't mean it resembles gilmore girls ffs

the plot? nowhere to be found
the characters? trying so hard to fit in the trope agenda. they where so under-developed, they barely felt realistic. the author tried so hard to push the "grumpy x sunshine" trope and logan wasn't even grumpy!!! + not relatable at all
i really hate this current trend of minimizing books into tropes and losing chances of developing complex, with depth characters just cause, god forbids, they won't be described afterwards by "enemies to lovers" or "fake dating"

the pacing felt very off, the characters barely built any chemisty between them but they "love" one another already?  and yet people still describe it as slow burn

the spice was very awkard and i really can't get around the hype of smutty books.
reading sex scenes makes me feel very uncomfortable for some reason but that's personal.

i really want to like these kind of "light-read", romance books but every time i try to read one, i can't seem to enjoy it one bit.

the only thing i liked was the kinda, even though rushed, build up. everything went downhill once the got together, full of cliches and cringe-worthy lines.

This had a very slow start for me
Yes I read it fairly quickly but idk what kept me coming back

Irina was one of the most insufferable characters I’ve ever read. I know that’s the point but maybe I’m not that keen on reading unlikable characters. I was genuine annoyed (but that also works as a compliment for the story).

My biggest issue was this whole “woke” agenda the book tried to radiate. She was thought of as a feminism yet never show anything close to solidarity among women. Also her discomfort in being called working class once, really shows her political agenda. Even her work in the sexualisation of men as a critic in the sexualisation of women felt very “white” feminism to me.

Lastly her ED never being called out almost made it feel like it was romanticised (along with drugs).

By the halfway point it started to pick up and by the end it was quite interesting this whole distortion of reality ngl. But at the end of the day it’s hard for me to really enjoy books I’m not attached to its characters.

The writing was meh at its best
