Oddly written with very short chapters, and the ending felt both predictable and implausible. Maybe the timing was off but the storyline didn’t feel super complete to me, but still an easy read!

An easy and romantic read, needed something simple/not depressing and this delivered!

A book club read, very depressing to see how much hasn't changed since 2014 but enlightening to hear other women's experiences and what memories this book prompted.

The last quarter or so of the book felt quite rushed with large plot twists that didn't quite fit which was an abrupt change from the beginning of the book. My prior interest in this time period made it easier to remain interested when things got slower, which was something I have struggled with in her other books.

Difficult to pinpoint exactly what didn't spark interest for me, but I felt like it was a rosy view of possibility for the 60s, and things were tied up too neatly.

Very quick read but honestly really difficult to understand why it was so popular. The author’s note gives some much needed clarity but overall…hard to love

Overall pretty predictable, but unoffensive and an easy read but not sure I would recommend it to others.

First time reading even though the Cool Girl monologue has been in my mind for a while. So many details that were missing from the movie that enriched the story and…almost made me root for Nick.

After reading more of Brooks' work, I'm able to see what made me such a fan of Horse and what has led to my disappointment in her other work. Her attention to detail and story setting is meticulous, and it really feels like she is honoring the story of the group/person she is centering on. However, if this niche interest is not one you share, it can feel tedious and too in-depth to enjoy. Might just need to be grateful for the one book I loved and need to lower my expectations for her others.
