Doll Bones by Holly Black

Though I was initially frustrated by some aspects of the social interactions in the main character's friend group, their issues were resolved as the characters learned and grew. Also, it is kinda realistic that 12 year olds would have trouble expressing their emotions.

It was an interesting take on a coming-of-age tale, in which imaginative play was a huge component and symbolic of childhood in some ways, set against a quest to bring a haunted doll to peace. The mystery of the haunted doll was well-done, and I was chilled and intrigued once the MC found out how the ghost died.

I enjoyed this book more than I initially expected! I ended up listening to the 5 hour audiobook start to finish in one day because I just couldn't stop listening, and couldn't stop thinking about it.

This book was excellent! When I wasn't listening to it, I was thinking about it and discussing it with my partner. The story and characters were great, and the pacing was engaging. I became very invested in it quickly.

The audiobook narrator did a great job as well, and it was helpful to listen to the pronunciation of Vietnamese words and phrases.

Now I'm just hoping this author has more books I can read!
