A pretty good book - I really enjoyed the world and "current gifts" (aka magic powers that manifest differently for each person), and the fact that the female main character essentially has a chronic pain condition which I can directly relate to. Didn't get 4 stars from me because at times it bordered on too stressful/harsh for me to handle personally (I'm not sure if I will continue with the series at this time due to that. Otherwise I liked it.

TW: abuse, manipulation, death, some mutilation, brainwashing I guess
