This book was beautiful and moving. Each sentence was meticulously crafted... Each word was purposeful. The love and care the author, Randy Ribay, put into the book practically floods out of the pages. This is a beautifully crafted story about so many things. It's certainly a book worth reading again and again and again.

Mexico: Stories by Josh Barkan

Did not finish book. Stopped at 42%.
This book is fucking weird.
It's weird, unfunny, tasteless, with forgettable characters and plotlines. Not only that, but the majority of these characters are all Americans who immigrated to Mexico City.... what's the point of making a book all about Mexico City when almost all the protagonists don't come from there??? Also, it just got randomly transphobic out of the middle of nowhere.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
I just couldn't. It's boring. It tries hard to be funny but fails to do so. Not only that, but the writing seems very conservative?? Politically, that is. There is nothing explicitly conservative, but I just get a weird vibe from the writing.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun to read, and while fun, it was emotional and reflective. I love the way it was written and how her thoughts were expressed. However, I wish it was longer. There are aspects I wish she explored more. Although, it's a memoir, so it's understandable that she does not want to delve deep into certain things.
