Good Girl, Bad Blood was a quick read and I enjoyed the mystery. My favorite part of these books is how they’re formatted. I love seeing the added elements that support the idea of a podcast or a written report (as is the case with the first book). It makes it more immersive in my opinion and I loved feeling like I was working out the case details with Pip.

Despite the fact that I really did enjoy this book, I felt like it wasn’t quite as fleshed out as book 1. There weren’t as many suspects, there weren’t as many jaw dropping moments for me, and overall the conclusion felt like it came around a lot faster than I expected. It wasn’t bad at all, I just found myself wanting a little more from it.

However, I am still looking forward to the conclusion to the trilogy with book 3 and will be reading that soon.

This book was fantastic! I am a heavy fantasy reader so I am no stranger to the genre but this was a very cool journey into a world with a unique magic system. The world building was rich and detailed. I felt like I could easily see what the characters were seeing as the story progressed, as though I were part of it myself. I also really liked the magic system. These characters learn more about it as things happen and I loved that approach. It was cool to feel it unfold as the story did.

The character development was also great and I loved seeing how each one of them found their place among the group while everything unfolded. Each character brought something to the story that helped to keep me invested. This book is focused around a group of people, but I was able to keep them all straight as no two characters felt the same. They were all fleshed out and unique individuals.

I listened to this as an audiobook and that too, was excellent. The narrator did a great job bringing the story and the characters to life. The pacing for the story is nice, not too fast or too slow- something that I feel is notoriously a challenge in fantasy writing. My only regret now is that I don’t have book 2 ready to start immediately!

This book was so good! I love learning about Idaho history, especially that surrounding the Old Idaho State Penitentiary. I have visited the site personally and it was so interesting to read this book with my own insight to the prison as a piece of history. This made it come alive and I loved the fact that these are personal stories from Jerry Clapp’s diaries. He is an excellent storyteller and I was totally enthralled learning about the life he had growing up at the prison with his family.

This is a must read for anyone interested in history, especially if you live in or have connections to Idaho. I read this on Kindle Unlimited but will be purchasing a physical copy to have on my shelves, it was a great nonfiction read.

Dungeons and Drama was a DREAM to read! I am a musical lover who also loves board games and Dungeons & Dragons. When I tell you I was so excited to find out this book existed in the world, I am not even remotely exaggerating. I loved everything about this. It was SO cute and wholesome, and I adored it!

The characters were great. The conflict was appropriate for the setting and age range of the characters. The pacing was fantastic. I experienced a range of emotions while reading- I laughed, I cried, and I may have even squealed a time or two. This was fake dating done right.

The references to all things nerd were so fun and made the story that much more engaging. I will absolutely be reading this again and I can’t wait for the next book to come out early next year (2025).

I think anyone can enjoy this, but you will especially love it if you like tabletop games, role playing games, LARPing, or musical theater- don’t sleep on this one!

Another one added to my roster of Greek mythology retellings and I loved it. I’ve read several iterations of Helen and Clytemnestra at this point and I love how each version is a little bit the same and a little bit unique. This was no exception. I felt like the portrayal of both women was very relatable.  I was able to picture myself in each of their shoes and I think that gave weight to their stories. Life for Greek women was hard and this book did a great job painting that picture.

As with any retelling, some liberties were taken with the story, but one that I really liked in this book was the way Agamemnon’s seer was incorporated. This element gave a lot more depth to Clytemnestra’s pain, as well as to her empathy. I really loved that it made the story more approachable to a modern reader while still holding true to the original myth.

I also liked Helen’s internal dialogue throughout this book. I saw another review that said this book made her seem wishy-washy and passive but I don’t agree with that. I thought that the way Helen was written illustrated how young (and yes, naive) she was, but also how different her life was from  Clytemnestra’s, despite the fact that they grew up together. She became more real to me with this book, even if I didn’t agree with her or like her all the time.

I really enjoyed Daughters of Sparta and would absolutely recommend this for other mythology lovers.

Wow! This was twisty and a quick paced read. I like a book that keeps me guessing from the start. I liked that I could feel something was off but I couldn’t place what. I found the characters to be interesting, though only a few were truly likable, but that added to the story.

I am a big true crime and podcast fan and I thought the podcast element with this was so cool. I liked the way the timeline was woven together as well, it was a very cool way of progressing the story but without me feeling lost along the way.

I went into this knowing very little about it and I enjoyed it immensely. There are some difficult themes with this one, but I found that they were written well. If you like twisty thrillers, this one is for you.

I absolutely adored this book. The writing was fantastic and I loved how whimsical everything was. I saw the movie before I knew it was a book, and while they are pretty different, I think they are both excellent in their own way.

It’s safe to say that this book is now a new favorite that I plan to read over and over again, it was just wonderful.
