This books does bring the series to a close quite nicely, however, I found myself dreading some of the chapters, and skipping the long descriptive paragraphs. The plot felt very forced in some places, as if the author simply wrote anything just to get the book to be as long as the other two. I do enjoy the historical references and the alchemical stuff, so the world building is, as always, such a great.

Still could’ve been much shorter and straight to the point

Completely in love with the character of Gallowglass. Matthew in all his mysterious glory was also cool, but once again some plot points felt useless or forced. It seems that so many unnecessary things happened just to fill the pages.

On the bright note, the historical side of things was super cool (save for the long descriptions of architecture 😭).

I see how my 15-year-old self loved the series so much. Now that I’m a bit older I see how obvious some of the tropes are.

Still appreciate the intricate world building Harkness has done with this book. It enthralls and captures the attention. The romance, though fast paced, doesn’t feel forced as you follow along the main character’s thoughts.

Overall, really great for guilty pleasure reading or if you want to disconnect from the real world.
