Not So Fast by Karen Booth

 To paraphrase the title, the story went too fast for me to enjoy it. The transition from enemies to lovers is decidedly unbelievable and too quick for one to be credible even if to enjoy a love story between a handsome F1 driver and a normal girl the suspension of belief is already very very tested. However the engineering and historical part is well done and I still learned many new things.

Parafrasando il titolo, la storia é andata troppo veloce perché io me la potessi gustare. Il passaggio da nemici ad amanti é decisamente poco credibile e troppo rapido perché ci si possa credere con tutto che per gustarsi una storia d'amore tra un bellissimo pilota di F1 ed una ragazza normale la suspension of belief é giá molto molto provata. Comunque la parte ingegneristica e storica é ben fatta e ho imparato comunque molte cose nuove.

 This is probably the third time in ten years that my science fiction reading group has chosen a book where you don't have to pay as much attention and it is equally enjoyable without being obvious or boring. I'm also sure I'll be the only one who will have liked it, there's even a micro love story, go figure....That aside, I liked Snake's character very much, as I did the setting and the snake business, with caveats for the latter, however. I might even recommend it to someone, which happens just very rarely.

Probabilmente questa é la terza volta in dieci anni che il mio gruppo di lettura della fantascienza sceglie un libro in cui non bisogna prestare tantissima attenzione ed é ugualmente piacevole senza essere ovvio o noiso. Sono anche sicura che saró l'unica a cui sará piaciuto, c'é anche una micro storia d'amore, figurarsi....A parte questo, il personaggio di Snake mi é piaciuto tanto, cosí come l'ambientazione e la faccenda dei serpenti, con riserva questi ultimi, comunque. Potrei addirittura consigliarlo a qualcuno, cosa che capita proprio rarissimamente.

 Trite repetitive and predictable, so I obviously liked it because I was looking forward to reading this story. Also it should have been the last one, instead it will follow another paranormal romance with wolves and I can't ask for a better treat.

Banale ripetitivo e scontato, ovviamente quindi mi é piaciuto perché non vedevo l'ora di leggere questa storia. Inoltre avrebbe dovuto essere l'ultima, invece seguirá un altro paranormal romance con i lupi e io non posso chiedere di meglio.

I read all the romance books set in Alaska that I can find, even better if one of the authors I know and like has written them. I'm also glad it's the first in a series, although this one didn't appeal so much to me.

Leggo tutti i libri d'amore ambientati in Alaska che riesco a trovare, meglio ancora se li ha scritti una delle autrici che conosco e che mi piace. Sono anche felice che sia il primo di una serie, anche se questo non mi ha fatto impazzire.

 Che tristezza profonda questo romanzo. Non si salva nessuno, ma sinceramente, e credo perché sono una madre a mia volta, mi sembra che, se le colpe dei padri debbano ricadere sulle madri perché la vita acquisti un senso e vada avanti, magari é successo perché la persona - per motivi psicologici e/o culturali - non era in grado di fare altro. Per quanto io possa capire da dove venga la rabbia del protagonista, mi é sembrata per la maggior parte del tempo, mal indirizzata.

I had no idea that starting from the stars, astronomy would be much more interesting. When you get to the formulas and don't start with them, as an average user I can say that I am much more willing to make an effort to understand, especially when you don't get into the mathematical details. Basically then, this was the perfect book for me, because it allowed me to understand and learn, without feeling stupid or inadequate. Clearly, it is a book for those who are interested in the subject and are almost clueless, certainly not for those who have been studying it for some time, however beautiful and/or useful certain photos and diagrams may still be.

Non immaginavo che partendo dalle stelle, l'astronomia sarebbe stata molto piú interessante. Quando alle formule ci si arriva e non ci si parte, come utente medio posso affermare che sono molto piú disponibile a sforzarmi di capire, specialmente quando non si scende nei dettagli matematici. Praticamente quindi, questo é stato per me il libro perfetto, perché mi ha permesso di capire e di imparare, senza sentirmi stupida o inadeguata. Chiaramente é un libro per chi si interessa all'argomento ed é quasi privo di nozioni, non certo per chi lo studia da tempo, per quanto certe foto e diagrammi possono essere comunque belli e/o utili.

 Mastantuono, I know him from his Bonelli days so I enjoyed his Gerald, also because for once there was also Yennefer (until now I hadn't "read" her that often) and the story is quite compelling.

Mastantuono lo conosco dai tempi della Bonelli quindi ho apprezzato il suo Gerald, anche perché per una volta c'era anche Yennefer (fino ad ora non mi era capitato spesso di trovarla anche nei fumetti) e la storia é piuttosto avvincente.

 The first book was a surprise, this second one, on the other hand, took me by surprise because I was not thinking of a series even though the premise was all there. Unfortunately, however, as often happens to books "in between", this one bored me a bit moreover the number of fairy tale characters further increased and it also ended in a cliffhanger, so all in all, I liked it not so much overall.

Il primo libro é stato una sorpresa, questo secondo invece, mi ha preso di sorpresa, perché non pensavo ad una serie anche se le premesse c'erano tutte. Putroppo peró, come spesso capita nei libri di passaggio, questo mi ha un po' annoiato inoltre il numero dei personaggi delle favole é ulteriormente aumentato ed inoltre é finito in un cliffhanger, quindi, tutto sommato, non é che mi sia piaciuto complessivamente un granché.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi

 I had already read Scalzi in its not exactly sci-fi version (Villain, Kaiju, etc.) and liked it quite a bit. This time, on the other hand, it seemed to me that he didn't quite know how to end the book and even struggled a bit (but maybe it's a clear case of projection and it was me struggling to keep up with him) to handle the almost infinite number of characters. The end then really left me hanging.... In short, I have read much better books of his, but surely that is a matter of taste.

Avevo giá letto Scalzi nella sua versione non esattamente sci-fi (Villain, Kaiju, etc.) e mi era piaciuto parecchio. Stavolta mi é sembrato invece che non sapesse bene come far finire il libro e facesse anche un po' fatica (ma magari é un chiaro caso di proiezione ed ero io che faticavo a stargli dietro) a gestire il numero quasi infinito di personaggi. La fine poi mi ha lasciato veramente con l'amaro in bocca....Insomma ho letto libri suoi decisamente migliori, ma sicuramente é questione di gusti.
