The Secret History of the Rape Kit: A True Crime Story by Pagan Kennedy
5.0
I think this book is really important with how scary I feel America is right now.
With how everything seems to be going backwards, I think the history needs to be remembered so we can avoid having it happen once again. Something like rape is extremely important to take seriously and should be more of a concern with how common it is.

Completely not what I was expecting.
I knew there would be the guilt in it but all the detail in the writing of June really feelings and how she was processing was just so captivating and I read it all in one sitting!
Not to mention the end was absolutely just what I needed to give this book a 5 star

I think if I read this in my high school years I would have been absolutely obsessed with it.
TJ Klune always writes in such an entertaining way this book specifically had me laughing in multiple places.

Right off the bat engaging.
The character growth along with the engaging conversation between two characters. This makes a really good nighttime read

The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

God this book.
It’s trash, but I couldn’t stop reading it. There isn’t a lot of depth with the characters, the writing isn’t great.
It gives me extremely low budget horror movie. The twists just made me roll my eyes in many different ways.
Still, it kept my attention and I finished it in a day. So it gets a 3 star.
Read it if you want something so ridiculous it’s good.

I love mythology and all the gods. Reading the Iliad and everything else I can really get on this one had its turn.
I must say out of all the ones I’ve read with Odysseus in it, this Odysseus gets a solid 6/10
Not a fan of how it portrayed Circe.

I can really see how this book is so highly rated, it’s written very well with a handful of amazing characters.
HOWEVER. there are many things about it I didn’t enjoy.
For starters, I wasn’t really a fan of Lilly from the beginning. Every time it was in her POV I kind of zoned out wanting to be done with it. Then the sudden twist of finding out she’s trans and everything in her POV was about being trans. As someone who is trans this kind of annoyed me to a big peak.
Second of Asher’s back and forth of him being this dream boyfriend with a temper. I get that was kind of the point to make the reader guess if he was the one who did it, but it really just made me not like him at all.
Finally what really pissed me off was the ending. Maya really did it because she was into Asher yet she let him sit in jail for months. Then when she was on trial she lied and made it seem like he was abusive. Finally when it was all over she confessed everything AND SHE DIDNT GO TO JAIL?!
That just really pissed me off. Kind of is the reason for the low review. That and dislike for Lilly and Asher.

I could not put this book down. I finished it in 2 days.
First off the uncomfortable feeling that this book gives not necessarily the horror concept but with the racism and cultural fetish that is so obvious and gross. Ji-won would be considered kind of a bad person to me, but with her actions it made this book so enjoyable.
I think with everything that happened she’s insanely lucky with the ending. Very good book! Highly recommend!
