This book is fine. Interesting world building but the writing really dragged it down in places. She definitely develops a lot as a writer between this and Babel - that book had its flaws but it was an absolutely compelling, hard to put down read.

Not really my thing but I warmed up to it a little after the first half. Well written and with a properly developed and believable narrator.

A fascinating look at the way the music industry contributes to destroyed lives, told in tandem with the journalist's own self destruction, with his behaviour and struggles at best ignored or at worst lionised by the industry he works in.
