a lovely early 2000's romp around the awkwardness of being a kinda weird teenager.

This story feels like one recounted by a relative at the kitchen table, overflowing with the eccentricities of side characters, off-handed descriptions of impossible magic, and a familiarity that leaves you both longing for more details and fulfilled by what you've learned. Timely, whimsical, and unexpected, Dwelling ultimately reads as a love letter to family—biological and found—and the lengths near-strangers will go to in order to show up for those who need it most. As a renter, Texan, and occasionally aimless feeling sibling, this book had me hooked from page one and didn't disappoint. Part of my heart is still in a shoe-shaped building in Gulluck, Texas.

wolves, lesbians, intimacy, science, extinction, fear, hope. what an unsettling, surreal, unflinching look at the wild that humanity is slowly, painfully dissolving.

i'm a sucker for a story told through unconventional means, so i adored the way Influenca used medical memos, instagram posts and profiles throughout time, and magazine interviews to streamline our main character Dodie's journey to zombie-killing, hot lesbian fame. if i had to be stuck in a bunker with some books, i'd want this one to be in the pile.

unexpectedly healing in the wake of losing my version of henry. benji nate captures humanity so well, it's basically impossible not to adore any world they plop you into.

coyote doggirl and red remind me of the hours i spent aimlessly riding my horse and talking to her like she was both my best friend and therapist. the world is colorful and justice is bloody but real in this gorgeous, weird, funky graphic novel. the technicolor homage to old westerns peppered in with some found family and community care aspects makes for a delicious read.
