This book was SO CUTE!!!
I had a bunch of quarrels with the first book in the series but I really loved this one. Growth from the author and the storytelling. It was a really believable progression of a love story and my friends to lovers heart was so happy.
Trevor and Tara had so much chemistry and I really loved the character growth from them both as they realized what it’s really like to love and be loved.
Can’t wait for Mel’s book!

I wasn’t sure about this book in the beginning but dang. Dang, dang, dang. What an excellent book. Really got me.
Listen, these books aren't bad. They aren't good. They are what they are. But they scratch that itch.
Love a good enemies to lovers story and I’m relieved that at least one of my college hockey teams, albeit fictional, can beat Michigan. #gogreen
Also worth pointing out again the situations that Elle helps destigmatize and also those that she raises awareness of. We need more women in sports journalism!

How do you even begin to review a childhood classic like this?
I'm honestly not sure I've reread any of the books, aside from PoA, so it was so... joyful to return to the world of Harry Potter. This really was an excellent debut and such a stellar start to the series, even though it is clear that the author wasn't sure if this could become a series or where it all would go from inception.

This is a story of tragedy, pain, and suffering, but it is also a story of love, growth, and joy.
And I think that's really important.

honestly? no. just no.
i was going to be generous and give this 2 stars but no, absolutely no.
this book is a convoluted mess, and it absolutely did not need to be.
i should have DNF'd as soon as i read that the MFC's name was Sugar. tf?
things that needed to be edited out of this book:
- the dead high school sweetheart. who also happened to be pregnant when she died. who died after kissing the MMC's brother. none of this was necessary
- the strip club. i mean, really?
- the dead estranged dad and the will reading WHICH WE DONT EVEN REALLY FIND OUT ABOUT
- the name "sugar" and nickname "Sugar Baby"
- like 70% of the donuts.
anyway. do not recommend.

This is a pretty good mafia romance.
I could have done with less build up and more spice, but it was really enjoyable.
It also sets the stage for a really great rest of the series!

While I found the story to be lacking (though a fun, easy read; just needed a little more substance for me), I always appreciate how Elle Kennedy chooses to destigmatize things like neurodivergence and to raise awareness of issues like grooming, sexual assault, and toxic workplace environments.
