Britney is mother and her audiobook introduction really sets the tone for the memoir. Michelle Williams is also mother and her narration ensures that Britney's powerful writing, reflections, and truth are delivered authentically.
I got the audiobook thinking Britney read it all and totally understand why she didn't. Knowing what is healthy for you is self-care. I'm going to plug in tons of content warnings. Michelle Williams is so convincing that I forgot that she was reading it. This is very much Britney's story, unfiltered and direct, her own. So much respect and love.
I read through The City Born Great and intend to come back. I wanted to read that story before the Great Cities novels and now I have done so. Love N.K.
Leslie Jones' audiobook is kind of like listening to a director's commentary of her book. This approach brings tons of authenticity and raw emotion so I'm glad to have experienced it this way. However, I don't know if I can accurately review the book itself because Jones is lovingly off-script most of the time in a fascinating combo of memoir and 16 hour comedy album. It's really cool.
Wow! Volume 3 is exactly what the first 2 books were setting up. So much danger, creatures and dark magic, combined with the already great character work. The narrative has been a bit of a simmering pot and now everything is boiling. Can't wait for the final volume.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

V. Castro has quickly become one of my favorite writers and The Haunting of Alejandra is a masterclass in storytelling. By weaving ancestral voices in between Alejandra's narrative, Castro ups both the emotional and physical stakes to staggering heights. Some of the best creature writing ever too. I truly adore this book.
Volume 2 of The Vampire Slayer picks up the pace and adds more plot to its wonderful character work. Sarah Gailey is truly the best person for this kind of story, they bring so much of their unique flavor blend and it's much appreciated. Having Faith and Spike kicking back together was a lovely choice that kept on giving, definitely my favorite part aside from the glorious big bad.
A strong first volume that is more character focused than plot, full of breathing new life into beloved characters. I'm a big Sarah Gailey fan and their voice is clear while still giving established IP nods. I'm expecting the next volumes will be more fun now that the important groundwork was laid here.
The first Book of I Hate Fairyland is fun and moves pretty quickly. I didn't like the random pop culture references, really took me out of this fantasy world. Other than that, it was a good time.
This is a great neurodivergent supplement in addition to reading Polysecure. You could probably find most of the information with a few Google searches, but having it all in one place is helpful. A bit more of an overview than I was hoping for but still worth the time. The audiobook is an hour long.
I'm 0 for 2 in trying out YA horror books. The standard time must be spent explaining the school experience and I really don't care. High school sucked. I just could not stay invested in this story.
