A book that punches you in the face while you beg for more. Felker-Martin's writing is incredibly visceral and she never holds back on describing the gross, juicy, gorey bits. She doesn't hold back describing the stolen moments of tenderness, either, or in depicting the messy, complicated way people cling to each other because of love, lust, fear, hate...overall, Manhunt paints an utterly human experience that trans characters are not often afforded.
The fast pace makes it an easy book to fly through, though I do think at times it could have benefited from slowing down just a bit--there were a few time jumps towards the end that, I think, could have stood to be filled with scenes between the characters, just to flesh them out a little more. This could be chalked up to personal preference, though--I've always leaned towards character driven works over plot driven ones.
This isn't a book for everyone--it doesn't ever slow down to explain things for an imagined clueless cis audience, for one, which is refreshing--but for fans of adrenaline filled splatterpunk and those looking for a properly messy, nasty queer horror story to sink their teeth into, it's well worth the read.
