I am having hard time explaining my thoughts on this book but let my try to summarize it.

The main character - detective Erika Foster is a woman with sever mental health problems after suffering a loss of her husband who was murdered during a police intervention which was lead by Erika herself.

She is back at work for the first time and yet she is made the head of an important investigation again - a murder of Andrea, spoiled daughter of a very important and, needless to say, very rich man.

I am not gonna go in too much detail because I don't want to spoil the book for you but even though the book was very addictive and I read it in 2 days I still don't think it was really that good.

Erika is making some very illogical decisions during the investigation and I almost feel like she really shouldn't be back to work at all. She yells at people for literally no reason all the time. I also doubt that anyone would made her a head of such important investigation after she was held responsible for the death of her husband and four other policemen.

The plot itself was real good though. For the longest I didn't have a clue who could be the murderer and I was very shocked in the end.

As for the writing - the book is divided into a lot of short chapters and it worked well with the fact that there was constantly something happening. If you decide to read this book you aren't gonna be bored that's the one thing I can promise to you.

Overall I still want to read the second book from the series to give Erika another chance but for now I feel like there are better thrillers out there.

One unpopular opinion coming your way.

Normal people written by Sally Roonye is a book about a complicated relationship between Marianne and Connell. It maps about 4 years of their lifes from senior year in high school through college.

And just like that we discovered the main issue I had with that book. Forget me being constantly angry and confused cause I missed quotation marks but the fact that when I finally started to be at least a little invested in the plot and then suddenly a huge time gap came and left me even more confused is the true reason why I didn't enjoy this reading experience. How can one even attempt to put 4 years into just 246 pages.

To add some more negativity (sorry) I was not a fan of the main characters either. Their relationship seemed to be stuck at the same place for years and I know that life can be that way but I just couldn't see the change in their characters as they were both constantly claiming how much they have changed since high school. It almost felt like they're enjoying their misery to me.

On more positive note I did like how many important topics the story involves - abuse, toxic relationship not just with a partner but with family members too or the problems of being from a different "social class". All of these are important to talk about and I would love to know more about them.

So in conclusion - Normal people was just too short for me. I would love to see the characters develop properly and the side stories to be more deep. And quotation marks! Unfortunately that's not the case.
