challenging dark sad medium-paced

This book was gripping and horrible. I couldn’t stop listening and felt sick the whole time. The writing however, wasn’t great. It was overwrought in places, instead of compassionate. There were also quite a few repetitive phrases like “so and so said, years later.” I’d recommend for the survival story, but not the writing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this. The Alina narrative was by far my favorite and the strongest. The Alice POV felt slightly unnecessary and some of the autism representation made me feel a little uncomfortable. While there is a wide spectrum, autism is not something that needs to be fixed. And after living with someone with a debilitating disability, perhaps I’m a bit sensitive to disability caregiver narratives 😂 #netgalley

I really enjoyed this! I loved the three different POVs and how they all called each other into question - a great twist on your standard unreliable narrator. The twist wasn’t shocking, so this isn’t a book you read for the plot, but the characters were fascinating. It’s not often that you find a well-paced thriller with characters that are more engaging than the plot!

I absolutely adored this book. It was creepy and dark and utterly thrilling. The ending fell short for me (but it was 4 am soooo), however I’m hopeful that the author has plans for a sequel! A good one for horror movie fans.
informative slow-paced

The concept is FASCINATING, but the story goes all over the place. I don’t even think I could try to summarize his finding. O’Neill proves that the Helter Skelter motivation for the Tate-LaBianace murders isn’t true by positing a lot of other possible motivations. Nothing super solid, mostly hazy suggestions. Only for the truly Manson-obsessed (not me).

SADIE gripped me and wrecked me and Summers’s latest followed in the same vein. I’m a sucker for a good cult story and I love how well Summers can put together a believable and yet, unresolved, ending. She’s officially an auto buy author for me. I can’t remember the last time I devoured a book like this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley
