While I enjoyed this book, I felt distracted by the writing. I couldn’t help but see the authors in the story and I found that to be quite distracting. Other than that, I left the book feeling like I did not know the characters besides how they were as writers. In other words, the characters were rather underdeveloped especially Katrina. I was also peeved by how Katrina was characterized throughout the book in the present or even four years back compared to her six years back. It seem to be an entirely different character and while that could maybe be excused as character development we see so little from six years back and so little of that growth that it feels completely unjustified and like a mistake  in her characterization.

This book was incredible. Davila truly knew how to invoke someone’s fear and anxiety. Her familiarity with fear is so precise as she seems to know more about my fear than I do; I realized this when I found myself terrified of a toad in Musique Concréte. Truly I was delighted with the writing, with the ability to pinpoint to the root of our paranoia without being so obvious.
