What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah
5.0
straight up just one of the coolest short story anthologies i’ve read with such a strong through-line and literary voice. powerful girlhood, violence, and survival imbued at times with magical realism.
Key To The Dark by Alexa Michaels, Alexa Michaels

Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi

the ada's life is a shakespearean tragedy and i am the whole gallery in the theater watching her take a final bow as the ọgbanje try drag her feet out from under her. i watch from every angle as the world tries to unmake her and then i stay for the encore where the ada remakes themself as a whole being.
Shut Up You're Pretty by Téa Mutonji
2.0
incredibly strong through-line, but i still managed to lose the plot a few times and was jarred out of the narrative by a couple instances of trans-exclusionary feminism
Paradise Rot by Jenny Hval

really lost the plot when there stopped being a ton of piss, as much as i hate to say it
Please Do Not Touch This Exhibit by Jen Campbell

gut wrenching sorrow and fear, incomprehensible rage, and the endless desire for better. christ alive this was an instant favorite. it’s short and i’m glad cause if it was any longer i’d sick with emotion i can’t name.
They Fell Like Stars from the Sky and Other Stories by Sheikha Helawy

to exist at all is to rebel, even if its only a little. little rebellions everywhere.
If They Come for Us by Fatimah Asghar

“my love for the past is like my love for most things. i only feel it when i leave.” lost identity and coming of age in the face of a landscape foreign and unyielding to the tenderness of a young girl.
Binti: Sacred Fire by Nnedi Okorafor
4.0
incredibly short poignant way of addressing binti's life settling in on oomza as not only an outsider on a planet of hundreds of unique people, but also her ptsd from the trip over in book 1.
