This book is definitely better than the first one which is what I was hoping for. The dialogue and interaction of the main love interests in the first novel just felt stilted and not genuine to me. Even as an enemies to lovers novel which are my usual favorite.

But now that the main love interests are accepting their feelings, their interactions also seem more sincere. The action was a bit slow, but I’m still loving the world building and magic in this series.

Also love the plotting, scheming, and political maneuvers happening. Hopefully the series just continues getting better and better!

I really had a difficult time getting into this book. Halfway through the third novella, it finally picked up for me and I was excited to continue reading. But before that I found it very boring and a chore to read through. I hated Celaena at first, but did enjoy her character growth over the course of these novellas. Ultimately I’m excited to continue the Throne of Glass series because I’ve heard such amazing things about it. Just glad I’m done with slugging through this book and hopefully will love the others much more.

I absolutely loved the story and world-building in this book.

However, what brings my rating down is that I couldn’t get fully into the book or the romance. Enemies-to-lovers is my favorite trope, but something about this book felt contrived. I think it was some of the dialogue and inner monologue. I really couldn’t pinpoint it exactly but something about it majorly didn’t click for me.

I’ll continue on with the series because I enjoyed the overall story that much, but I’m really hoping the next book feels more natural.
