This might be of the funniest books I've ever read, a knowing satirical melodrama about race, sexuality, drugs that skewers the nuclear family straight through the heart. And what's more, the characters are wonderful, especially Karen, a girl full of life and wonder. There's a reason Zink has been so talked about and controversial.

This was hugely enjoyable and wonderfully twisted, a sort of epic-scale industrial Lord of the Flies. The microcosm of the middle to upper class allows for some great ruminations on class structure in the UK without ever letting that discussion get in the way of the thriller-style story. Great social science fiction. I can't wait to see the film next week!
