Tangled Up in You by Christina Lauren

I love Christina Lauren and I love Tangled so, I was worried my hopes were too high for this book- but they weren't. Ren and Fitz are a perfect grumpy sunshine couple and I loved all of the nods to Tangled. It was such a smart way to reimagine the story for a modern day romance and I loved it. It had heart, hummer, action and adventure and I loved every second of Ren's story.

I want to love this series, but it was kinda boring and just okay. Very sweet though.

The first quarter was good, the last quarter was fine and the middle just kinda sucked. I can’t decide how I feel.

Slow start wanted to DNF but I’m really glad I finished. Solid ending- only wish we got more from the other characters and not just Cassidy but also like the choice to have Cassidy be the only present day perspective so don’t listen to me.

I don't think this book was what i expected it to be, and that’s on me. I anticipated a more humorous type story probably due to the cartoon cover but really it’s just a straightforward story about a reporter trying to break the story before getting scooped- yet again. Which in itself isn't bad- however the person who died wasn't interesting and she really made it clear that everyone else was reporting wrong and she was the only one following the cardinal journalism rules. I also really struggled with the writing style. Every pop culture or Phoenix cultural reference was followed by 3 paragraphs of explanation. Either your audience gets it or not but stopping to explain the connections took me out of the story. Suffice, to say I didn't enjoy this book but overall it was well written and might be perfect for someone else.

How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang

I LOVED this book. Kuang's writing is so beautiful and her ability to say so much through touch and looks is what every romance author strives for. Helen and Gran'ts story is complicated and why they can't be together makes sense and is messy and hard. At times I couldn't put this book down because I was obsessed with what was happening- and other times I was scared to keep reading because my heart was breaking. I love that this book also navigates topics like Helen trying to figure out who she is as a writer, friendships, her relationship with her parents. This book was so heavy and Kuang navigated it perfectly. Helen and Grant have a special place in my heart, and I am excited to read more from her in the future.
