the perversion of it all! i do love stories about fucked up ladies - but
i feel like the redemption arcs of a character like this is a lame and tired concept. i want a bitch to be awful and never change!

this maybe wasn’t the best joan didion to start my journey on, but it was lovely nonetheless. a mural of california history from the perspective of her family. made me think about what it means to be from where you are from.

most of the themes in this lil self help diddy were also in another novel of hers i read, so i often found the content boring. the advice and buddhist perspective on how to cope with challenging aspects of life is helpful nonetheless. i am curious if her other books are also the same thing in different fonts!

made me consider what it means to be a "woman", thought about life's purpose, and I can still feel a weight on my chest from the heaviness of the content. well-paced and thoughtful.
