2 stars is generous. The characters are melodramatic and their actions are far fetched. This was such a tedious read, but I forced myself to finish it despite guessing the ending less than halfway through.

At first I was captured by the storytelling, and the concept of WWII from a new perspective. But I found it a little impersonal and hard to engage with. There were births and deaths that passed that I barely even registered. That could be partly because it took me so damn long to read though. But I just couldn’t get into this one like I wanted to. 3.5 stars nonetheless. I enjoyed it. Just didn’t live up to expectations.
