I enjoyed the first story and the second to a degree but the rest I found unremarkable.

I enjoyed this much more than I expected to (as you can probably tell given I read it in 24 hours).
At times I was frustrated beyond comprehension - why don’t these people just explain themselves so all their problems disappear?!
Then I remember what my life was like at that stage. Everything is new and you have no instructions. I found this to be a really genuine portrayal of navigating the world for the first time.

I can’t believe this is the same author that wrote Room.
This was an incredibly poignant journey through the initial aftermath of grief.
A lot of this resonated with me; feeling like you’re doing it all wrong if you’re not falling to absolute pieces, I even begged my boss to let me come back to work the very next day.
It is also the retelling of a cozy, quiet queer love in all its glory.

Eh.
I don’t believe the payoff of the twist at the end was satisfying enough to justify reading almost 90% of the book thinking it was written by a misogynistic egomaniac, about a misogynistic egomaniac.
I usually like novels with unreliable narrators, this just didn’t do it for me
