This book was so FUN! Set against the eerie backdrop of a HAUNTED castle in Scotland, the novel follows rival horror authors Neil and Pen as they embark on a writing retreat that quickly spirals into a journey of self-discovery and *unexpected* romance.

Colby Wilkins, an Indigenous author, brings a unique perspective to If I Stopped Haunting You, infusing the narrative with cultural richness and authenticity. The characters, both Neil and Pen, are also Indigenous. This representation adds depth to the story, as Neil and Pen navigate not only their personal and professional rivalries but also their identities, making the book a poignant exploration of contemporary Indigenous life alongside the light-hearted romance that felt fresh and engaging.

Enemies to lovers will always be one of my favorite tropes. The tension between Neil and Pen is palpable and delicious and I loved every second of it. 💜

To me, Wilkins skillfully intertwines elements of romance, mystery, and humor, creating a lighthearted read perfect for spooky-season. I found it to be delightful, thought-provoking, and enchanting! I cannot wait for their next book to come out next March!

Very fun! A little too long IMO but I enjoyed the fall scenery and atmosphere almost as much as the smut! 😇

It took NO convincing when my friends asked me to read this gay vampire hockey romance and tbh I had a GREAT time! I wish there were more in this series that I could dive right into!

I love Danica Nava and I’m so excited for her as THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO EMBER is the first Indigenous contemporary romance to be published by a major publisher!!! Publishers, we want MORE!

I picked this for my romance bookclub and while we all love the author and want to support her, we also ALL struggled with the excessive lying from Ember. She just lied about the dumbest stuff and at times I felt so stressed out I didn’t know if I could continue lol! I also wish we knew more about Danuwoa other than that he was hot. I needed more romance and way less plot!

I do think this is a strong debut and I hope Danica has a long and successful career!

“Love was not something, I realized, that came to you from outside. I had always thought that love was supposed to come from other people, and somehow, I was failing to catch the crumbs of it, failing to eat them, and I went around belly empty and desperate. I didn’t know that love was supposed to come from within me, and that as long as I loved others, the strength and warmth of that love would fill me, make me strong.”

The fact that this doesn’t come out until DECEMBER and then I have to wait a whole year after that until book 3 has me sauuur sad after that cliffhanger :(

But I really love this world and I’m sad to leave it behind for a little bit!

A little more history/plot forward than I generally prefer my romance books but I read it in less than 24 hours so!
