this needed to be about 200 pages shorter :) it was waaay too long, and meandering around a point that was never actually fleshed out.

there were too many unanswered questions on How and a lot of 'men r bad, women turn into dragons when it's all too much. the end.' even tho there was literally scientific research happening within the story, there are no answers. it also got a bit silly and opinions just abruptly changed. the relationship between alex and bea however was the strongest argument for why this was an okay read, as well as the writing. while it did go on and on about pointless stuff, it was written well.

i think as a short story, this could have been really cool but it fell considerably short of any expectations a novel might have with a title like that.

gOOD GOD. i NEED a minute..

if i had taken this w me when visiting my girlfriend, i def would have finished this in like 0.4 days, bc i was utterly consumed by this book. consumed.

what’s wild is the writing isn’t necessarily a+ literature; it relies heavily on telling you everything - no room left for a readers suspicions, no interpretations, no brain work. you are told how the character feels, who they are in relation to the plot at that specific point in the narrative, and what they had for breakfast. and yet, i was enthralled and my gut inexplicably punched (numerous times actually).

i didn’t even really know of ice hockey’s existence but now i’m rooting for beartowns a-team.

i can understand why people might not like this, especially the ending because it was so abrupt when ur rly in the thick of it, like what's gonna happen ?? but, also i think it makes perfect sense because throughout the entire novel, our mc is constantly waiting on everyone else, and she's sick of ittt.

depiction of white woke feminism was on point thooo

deciding to listen to this on audio was a MOVE, and i'm giving myself a pat on the back for it.

not entirely bountiful when it comes to plot, but we all must know by now, i don't need that to enjoy a book and this is a solid example. so viscerally beautiful in an explorative sort of way.

this was hot; i had to turn it off in public, blushing on the bus fr.

loved this juuust as much and i think bitter was a really good set up for pet.
kinda want my own pet now. also loved both the inclusion of sign language and trans just being easily accepted and a way of lfie, as well as the friendship between jam and redemption.

incredibly informative, stuck to the facts for the most part and wasn't overly propagation. i really enjoyed the 'science-y' aspect that was easy to wrap my very much non scientific brain around

this felt like reading a diary, which made it easily consumable and relatable. also very inclusive without being too 'look i'm being diverse !!' (ashely herring blake, take some notes xx). i also really liked all the different relationships j has, and the exploration of those relationships was solid. also reaaaally liked the poems, esp the one interlaced with a recipe, very unique.

the writing style wasn't my fav tho - very much; i did this. i thought this. someone did this. because they like this. there were these things. and also that. and then i did this.' i just find this sort of writing stilted, and prefer being shown things rather than just constantly told.

i don't usually rate non fic, but this lit had grammatical errors and it makes me question the accuracy ... also everything in this i absolutely could've found easily in a single google search but some of the earlier cases i hadn't originally heard about so i guess there's that?
