This is the second of Brom’s books I’ve read. It was very different to what I was anticipating, after first reading Slewfoot. Most notably, Krampus takes place in the modern day.

I must admit I didn’t particularly enjoy the first half of this book, it didn’t really have the fantastical horror I was hoping for and I didn’t massively engage with the characters, but it picked up towards the end. Overall I would say this has a much lighter tone compared to Slewfoot.

This was a slow burn for me. It was a while before I felt invested in it or saw the appeal of any of the characters, but I’m glad I continued as the second half was dark and gripping.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 54%.
I'm no stranger to some of the most disturbing books out there,  but this book pulled needless animal cruelty out the blue. It felt very unnecessary to the plot, I didn't want to read further. I guess I've found where I draw the line.

This book was just too boring to be this long. Nothing reeled me in.

Very glad I listened to the audiobook, which had excellent narration to be fair. I doubt I’d have gotten through it in book form.

Bit of a slow start, but I enjoyed following this band of travellers as they attempt to avoid the Pestilence, getting to know their pasts and darkest secrets

This book was incredible; I'd go as far as saying it's my favourite read to date. I was completely immersed in the story from the very beginning and enjoyed every single page.

Brom has done an amazing job bringing this world to life, complimented by his eerie artwork breaking up the chapters. I will certainly be reading his other works, after this.

Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters, however I found the pacing too slow and I think the book is quite a bit longer than it needed to be, it was a struggle to stay engaged.
