A deep meditation on modern womanhood, our inability to access our base instincts, and what happens when we give into our desires. I found this book deeply moving, and particularly in the first half, I felt like I was seeing myself reflected on a deeply spiritual level.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
As much as I thought the setting was interesting--and I enjoy a curmudgeon as a main character--I really could not get over the "White man is taught empathy by magical People of Color" trope that was going on.

Fantastic. Tense. A deeply moving story about who we love and what lengths we will go to protect those we care for. A must-read.
