Stop reading, start living. "All those who actually live the mysteries of life haven't the time to write, and all those who have the time don't live them. D'you see?" It seems a contradiction to be writing this review, I should be speaking the Zobra's language: singing, dancing, loving. Go. Do.

Yourcenar's literary superpower is her ability to travel back through time using empathy (and, of course, lots of researched historical details). What shines through the most, however, is Hadrian's humanity and the result is this powerful and emotionally-charged historical novel.
