Main character, Rob, is in an unhappy marriage with an abusive and cheating husband. She has two daughters, one of which she has trouble bonding with, due to behavior problems.
After an incident with her older daughter, Rob takes her to the land where she grew up. At this point in the book, we go into Rob's past, including her childhood.
