The second book in the series of graphic novels, Chew Volume 2 is just as fun as the first volume. Following Tony Chu as he hunts down a lead pertaining to the first story. He winds up on a tropical island where, a fruit is being grown that, when cooked, tastes remarkably like chicken. Unfortunately, trouble seems to follow Tony and his trip to investigate a lead off the clock turns into something more sinister.

I really enjoy these books and I love the original food-related "powers" that author John Layman, comes up with for the characters.

John Connolly has to be one of my favourite authors. His ability to write original characters and to bring them into unusual but enjoyable circumstances, is unparalleled.

The Gates follows a little boy named Samuel and his dog. After they accidentally see something that they shouldn't (namely a group of local adults dabbling in the dark arts and accidentally opening the gates of hell), forces of evil begin a hunt to destroy Samuel. Samuel must find a way to stop the gates of hell from opening and unleashing unspeakable terrors on the world. Unfortunately, nobody believes him and therefore, no one will help him. It's then left to Samuel to stop the apocalypse.

Funny, delightful and well written. I didn't know what to expect when I first picked up this book, but I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't put it down.

A great and fun read!
